Google Analytics Goals don’t match page views/are innacurate
Something that has frustrated me for a long time has been the inaccuracy of Google analytics Goals. I should state up front that no, I didn’t just RTFM, it wasn’t something I was concentrating on specifically, but having spent today working on the excellent “Custom reporting” now available I decided to get to the bottom of it.
Anyway as it turns out the key thing is found at the analytics support forum:
“Google Analytics will only track one goal conversion per visit. If a visitor converts multiple time at the same goal Google Analytics will only count one conversion.”So there you go, unfortunately it doesn’t resolve my issue, the custom metrics still don’t tell me quite what I want but at least I now understand the issue!
